Hannah Gilfix is a member of the class of 2015 and is currently pursuing a major in Neuroscience. She recently studied abroad in Peru and Mexico.
Last spring, I did an intense dual study abroad experience, where I spent Winter Term in Guadalajara, Mexico through the Oberlin in Guadalajara program, and then went directly to Peru to study abroad there in Cusco. This experience was incredible. While in Guadalajara, I lived with a host family, took 6 hours of classes a day, and became close friends with several locals. I learned the equivalent of a semesters worth of Spanish in 1 month. In Peru, I also lived with a host family and took several classes in Spanish on the Incas and Hispanic Culture. My Spanish improved tremendously and I absolutely fell in love with this part of the world. I had the opportunity to travel to Machu Picchu, the Amazon, Lago Titicaca, Lima, and Colca Canyon (one of the deepest canyons in the world). I also worked in the neuropsychology clinic of a local hospital. I highly recommend studying abroad and feel free to come find me in the language lab if you have any questions about Peru or Guadalajara!
