Techno Tuesdays Fall 2009

Join us this fall as we talk about tools for teaching and learning (and sometimes just plain ole fun stuff)….one tool at a time…on Tuesdays. Bring a lunch, we’ll provide the drinks!

Our TechnoTuesday Fall 2009 schedule:

September 8: Forrest Rose, from OCTET to talk about the new Blackboard

September 22: Skype and the Mixxer with Todd Bryant of Dickinson College

< our mid term break in the action>

October 27: Exploring Second Life for teaching and learning, with Sue Simonson Shick, Case Western Reserve University. Second Life is an online virtual reality tool that many higher ed institutions use for promotional purposes, but more and more educators are exploring its educational possibilities. Here are some links to articles about SL from our delicious page

November 3: Blogging: It’s more than a discussion board: “The Right Reverend” Jim Groom, The University of Mary Washington

November 10: Vodcasting with Dr Peter Naegele, Department of Psychology, Oberlin College

November 17: Quick and easy tools that encourage student language production with Dr. Felix Kronenberg , Rhodes College

November 24: Everything and anything you need to know about Twitter with Barbara Sawhill, Oberlin College, (and a cast of Twitter thousands)

Have a tool you would like to showcase, explain, or explore? Email us at languages@oberlin.edu

We meet in Peters 327 from 12:15-1:00 and then again in the same place from 3:30-4:15.

TechnoTuesdays follows this format: We highlight one tool per session, and we ask the following questions:

What is it?

How does it work?

Who is using it?

How can it be used for teaching and learning?

What do I do if I want to learn more?
