It depicts the effect of Joseph Stalin’s Great Purge on a senior Red Army officer and his family. You will see how an absolutely happy life of a man can turn to a total disaster for a day. This film received the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
The spring is finally here and it is high time for hunting….. hunting for good movies. I would like to invite you to the Russian Movie Night. We are going to discuss a Russian comedy Peculiarities of the National Hunt. It is a stunning Russian comedy released in 1995, which was so popular in Russia that several sequels were filmed within 3 years.
The plot:
A young Finn who does research in Russian traditions of hunting comes to Russia, but it looks like there are too many traditions to go through before hunting … An European faces Russian reality in a very funny way.

Though this day is called International Women’s Day not many people outside of former Soviet Block know this celebration. It used to be a Socialist Political event but when it blended with many cultural traditions and lost its political meaning. It became simply an occasion for men to express their love for women in a way somewhat similar to a mixture of Mother’s Day and St. Valentine’s Day.
This day is a very important day in Russia. On this day it is customary for men to give the women in their lives – mothers, wives, girlfriends, daughters, colleagues, etc. – flowers and small gifts.
I personally love this celebration. I really do like to get presents, cards and flowers this day and give presents to my mom, sister and friends.
