Project topic: to be able to read, comprehend but also translate the poetry of Jorge Luis Borges.
Meeting notes:
Would like to work with Federico from México (former student of JLB's) but has not had much success getting in touch with him
Would be willing to do a literary exchange with others: English short stories or poems for Borges. Hemingway?
Update April 16: Barbara spoke to Federico, and he was having computer troubles. he is now back online and ready to work with Luke via Skype.
For next meeting:
Set up schedule for exchanges, identify works to be read
Barbara to find folks in Colombia or Spain as well
April 17:
Luke to find poems by Borges that have not been translated to English (question: is there no Obras Completas of Borges in Mudd? Yikes!) Decide upon a few that he likes.
Will begin reading some works with Federico, who studied English Literature with Borges (but in Spanish)
Barbara to see if there are ohers that could collaborate with Luke, or do a reading exchange
Barbara also to see if the incoming GAs (in Spain and Venezuela) might be interestd in participating as well.
Barbara to ask Patrick or Lazslo about untranslated works too
Luke to tell Federico about his blog and ask for comments
