Karin
From HISP305
Circulos de lectores/comentaristas
Topic: Guatemalan political unrest: causes, solutions..upcoming elections
notes from the first meeting: No need to make this into a large research project...get the background you need from doing research, but need to come up with questions that only a native speaker could help you solve/resolve.
Watch current news broadcasts, read online news and see what current events might have connections with past events?
Blogs from Guatemala?
Barbara to look into SCOLA broadcasts from Guatemala.
Should talk with Colin, who is doing similar work but with Venezuela and Bolivia
Second meeting: Karin is getting tired of researching history and writing about it on the blog. Indeed, this need not be an indepth research project...hyperlinks could suffice for some of the background info needed
Will focus a bit on Rigoberta Menchu and the fact that she is running for president. Might be a topic that when he speaks with Guatemalas, they would have an opinion about her candidacy. Could be interesting to see what the local/in-country perceptions of her might be
For next week: Find Guatemalans with whom Karin can speak...search for blogs
