Hello! There was just a conference at Lehigh University on the subject. You can get a sense of some of the work being done:
http://www3.lehigh.edu/News/V2news_story.asp?iNewsID=2685

Dr. Sujatha Fernandes published a book on Cuban hip hop with Duke University Press
Dr. Marc Perry wrote his dissertation on the subject
http://www.lib.utexas.edu/etd/d/2004/perrym93492/perrym93492.pdf
Dr. Geoff Baker has published at least 2 academic articles on the subject. His book is due out soon, I think with Duke University Press

There are quite a few documentaries on the subject. Eli Jacobs-Fantauzzi’s Inventos. And Cuban Hip-Hop All-Stars are easily available on amazon.com

Good luck!
Raquel

Subject: Cuban Hip Hop

Dear Dr. Rivera,

I am a student at Oberlin College who attended your lecture on “gatas y divas” last semester. I was hoping to find out more information regarding Cuban Hip Hop because I remember you mentioned Las Krudas as one of many examples of women in hip hop. I would greatly appreciate your guidance and assistance with the subject. I am doing research on women in the Cuban Hip Hop Movement for a spanish commincations/studies class here at Oberlin.

Thank you,

Tuyet Ngo
