Frances Visintainer graduated from Oberlin in 2011 with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Japanese. She knows Latin and speaks Japanese and Arabic. Frances is teaching English in Ishikawa-ken, Japan with the JET Programme.
I attended multiple hangouts and language tables for my Japanese classes at Oberlin, and I studied Latin, Japanese, and Arabic. The language lab was definitely a useful resource for me as a student. (Thanks for all the hours of cockatiel therapy while I was doing Japanese homework!) Furthermore, language tables that were set up through the Japanese department were useful as I had a set time to speak Japanese with classmates (outside of class, that is) once or twice a week. Living in Asia House was useful as well, and during my sophomore year I would speak Japanese with friends almost every day.
