Today from 12:15-1 and then again from 3:30-4:15 in Peters 327, we will be joined (virtually) by The Right Reverend Dr. Jim Groom of the University of Mary Washington for a conversation about blogging…what it is, what it isn’t, and how it can be used in teaching and learning.

Jim, who coined the phrase (battlecry?) and the mindset of EDUPUNK, will bring his tree-hugging charm and wit and grit (and probably his Yankees hat as well) to this session, and explain why he believes blogs (in particular WordPress Multi User blogs) can change teaching and learning forever.

Ever asked yourself “What Would Jim Groom Do ?” Well, now you can find out.

Bring your lunch…we will provide the beverages.

Here is a slide show that Jim created for the occasion:

Thanks to the Smithsonian Institution’s efforts in new technologies, one can “visit” and “interact” with latino cultural practices virtually. Click here for more information about their programs and their resources.

Starting today (September 8 2009), the CILC will close during dinnertime (5-7 p.m.) and reopen from 7-11 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays.

This is partly due to budget cut backs, but also due to the fact that according to Justin’s fabulous usage tracking tool, on average there are very few folks come to the CILC from 5-7 p.m. on weeknights. We would rather have the lab open when it is needed by our users, vs staffed and vacant.

The Korean EXCO will still meet in the CILC on Wednesday at 5. The lab will only be open to them at that time.

Our hours for the fall semester are, for the moment:

M-Th: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
F: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday: closed
Sunday: 6 p.m. – 11 p.m.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you!
