October 1970

Dear Diary,

This is my first post. It has been long enough. Ever since I could remember, my parents have told me that one day I would become a farmer just like them. For me, farming has been my entire life. However, I don’t want to model my life to be the same as my parents. I don’t want to follow in their paths. I started to notice around the time I turned 15 that there was more happening in the world, more than just farming. Now as a 20 year old, I am realizing not only an ability to connect with the outside world, but a need to do so. That is why I am writing in this diary.

My parents, my friends, nobody seems to understand that what is going on in our country can change the world in such a great way. To my dad, all that matters is what goes on our farm and nothing else. It’s enough! I don’t want to spend my entire life living in a little farming town at the southern tip of the world. There is more to see, more to do, and more to accomplish. Right now, my words are just words. Nothing that I can really act upon. Hopefully one day I can gain the courage to follow through with my passions. Then, I can look back to this post and say, this is when I finally started to change my life. Here. Until then, however, it’s just you and me diary. For now, nobody else really understands.
