Questioning Beliefs

I seem to be very bad at writing here regularly but life always seems to get so busy. The country has been in a bit of an economic crisis for the past year or so and it’s been pretty tough for all of us.  The bank that keeps my money, Banco de Talca, and another, Banco Español Chile, two large banks had to be bailed out by the government.  I’m not terribly familiar with economics but it seems to have been caused by those banks taking a lot of financial risks.

I don’t really understand how exactly this could have happened under Pinochet.  I understand that all economies bust at some point but I don’t see how it could have happened to this extent.  Pinochet was constructing such a wonderful country and now he has nearly brought the country to ruin, what everyone said Allende would do.  I used to be a very avid supporter of Pinochet and I thought that he was doing great things for the Chilean people but I’m starting to question that.  I’m beginning to second-guess some of his policies after this disastrous year for the economy.

by the government.  I don’t really understand economics all that much but the crisis seems to have been caused

Hi, Lena. What do you make of the demonstrations that have started up again? Will we return to the times of Allende?
