Shameless Promotion, part 2

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Barbara’s been a busy busy writing bee; this time she has co-authored (with Barbara Ganley of Middlebury College) the lead article in the 15th edition of The Knowledge Tree: Making Ground, an e-learning journal out of Australia.

Their article, entitled How did a couple of veteran classroom teachers end up in a space like this? Extraordinary intersections between learning, social software and teaching, is available on The Knowledge tree’s website.

In addition to reading the article, you can listen to the audio version (read by The Barbaras!) or join them for a live online interview on 8 November at 8:30pm EST. (Check the sites listed above for more information on how to connect!

Congratulations again, Barbara!

Our Fall Break Plans

Friday, October 19th, 2007

Just because the CILC will be closed (to students…not faculty) next week doesn’t mean Barbara and I won’t be hard at work. This year’s Fall Break project? Teaching our birds to dance, like this:

thanks to bird lovers only rescue and our labbie, benji, for the video!

;-) Happy Fall Break, and we’ll see y’all in a week!

Attn Faculty: Technology Drop-ins!

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

During Fall Break the CILC will be closed to the public, but we’ll be hosting a series of Technology Drop-in sessions for faculty members. Next Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from 1pm – 4pm, faculty members can drop by and ask questions, get technical assistance, or run hands-on experiments with anything supported by CILC – all with no need for an appointment!

Some examples of what we could help you do in about 30 minutes:

  • Prepare audio and/or video clips for your students
  • Set up a Moodle course from scratch
  • Schedule all your second module Blackboard assignments to automatically appear
  • Scan paper documents and make them editable
  • Catch up on the BrownBag Sessions you may have missed
  • Learn how to use your computer with a Smart Classroom
  • Find out how to record audio (guest speakers, groups, your own lectures, or even regular assignments) with our iPods
  • … just about anything else you can think of!

Have a great Break, and we hope to see you in the ILC!

My how they have grown!

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Just an update… our wee ones are growing. Alas, even baby birds can have “bad hair days.” They are beginning to explore the world outside of their nest. Should you want to learn more about zebra finches please check out this site.
